How to install mariadb on top of mysql?

Development | Databases
Description
Good day. There is a question about optimizing our web servers. Still hesitate between percona and mariadb. The essence of the question is that in our infrastructure it is designed so that the application itself lies next to the database. Now a bunch of tomkat7 and muscle 5.5 and night dump database. For optimization, we plan to set up master-slave replication. But in order to be completely good - also instead of a muscle - its fork. How to make a muscle - maria (or perkonu) without unnecessary manipulation

Regarding Migration:

In a general situation, the following may suffice:
1. Highlight non-working time when preventive measures can be taken.
2. Back up the database(both applications and information_scheme)
3. Stop MySQL
4. Backup data files(/var/lib/mysql)
5. Back up configs from/etc/mysql
         6. Remove package:'sudo apt-get remove mysql-server'
7. Connect MariaDB repository: https://downloads.mariadb.org/mariadb/repositories/
8. Run sudo apt-get update
9. Install Package: sudo apt-get install mariadb-server
        10. Make sure the application works as expected.

All.

What can go wrong:

- A too significant difference in the configs hypothetically could lead to the problem of reading the existing data files by the new server, preventing the launch of the service. The cause is most likely written in /var/log/mysql.log or /var/log/mysql.err.
I have never come across this before, but if this happens, it will be faster: remove MariaDB, then disable the repository(by deleting the appropriate line/file from /etc/apt/sources.list or /etc /apt/sources.list.d /), then sudo
apt-get update, then install the mysql-server package back. Before that, it would be a good idea to roll back the/etc/mysql and/var/lib/mysql backups to their original locations in order to eliminate the consequences of changing the data/config files with MariaDB.Then analyze what went wrong and prepare you better for the next migration attempt.
